First things first….more pictures are coming….we have to resize them, blah, blah.
Being a parent means poop. As in….there’s lots of it. And we laugh at it, celebrate it, applaude it, and fear it. It’s always there….waiting to make a story.
Harper is awesome! She’s 11 weeks old now and quite the chatty kiddo (baby talk, of course). Most recent thing of note is she’s been dubbed “Queen of the Poop Factory”. This title was bestowed upon her by our sitter’s 5 year old son after a day of dirty diapers every 15 minutes or so. I think she went through 6 diapers in 4 hours. And then she didn’t poop for 2 days. This is all “normal”. I think that babies are so different that anything they do is considered “normal” so the parents don’t freak out. :-)
We left Harper with a friend last Friday so that we could go on a date (we went to see a wonderful play!) and not 10 minutes after we left, Harper made a huuuuge poopie. Diaper and clothes were both changed and then Harper went to sleep for 3 hours.
Our own personal poop story has been named the “Fuji Jade Garden Incident”. It was a huge mess…..as in “I almost just took my kid and just sprayed her off with the water hose” type mess. I considered cutting her outfit off because it would have been easier than trying to pull it over her head. I think the outfit had just as much poop in it as the diaper. In fact, the diaper was hardly recognizable….It was like “Would you like some diaper to go with that poop?” But, she was happy and relieved. And we’ve been back to Fuji Jade Garden without incident.
My favorite quote so far has come from John….J: “She pooped. It’s green.” A: “What do you mean - green?” J: “Yep, green….like Kermit.”
Other milestones of note….
Harper is chatty and makes lots of baby cooing sounds. She also makes razz sounds (also known as noisy spit bubbles).
She knows her hands and likes to put them in her mouth - like her whole fist - and she gnaws on them.
She can grasp and move objects. She bats at toys hanging in front of her and tries to grab on to things (toys, blankets, clothes, mommy’s hair and jewelry)
She can hold her head up for quite a while, although she still gets wobbly. She likes to sit and stand - with mommy and daddy support, of course.
She’s sleeping in her crib at night and sleeping about 7 hours during the night. I’ve had to wake her up some mornings to feed her before I leave for work. She’s like her daddy….a very “sound” sleeper.
And our favorite….she smiles. And sometimes lets out a little happy “coo” or giggle.
As promised, updated pictures will come soon.
And sorry to write a whole entry about poop. The running joke with all the husbands is that the Haigler family can’t go 5 minutes without mentioning a bodily function. I think the longest we’ve gone (according to John Daughtry and John Brock) is about an hour. We must have all been taking a nap for that to happen. :-P
